40th Birthday Celebrations

The Sunnynook Scout Group celebrated its 40th Birthday with a dinner for around 130 people. It was great to have a lot of former youth members, Leaders and Committee and we had the whole life of the group covered from day 1 until present. Makarau Camp

Makarau in the winter can get very cold overnight – there was frost on the tents in the morning. Nice during the day though and our Scouts got to do some cool activities to tick off some of their Awards Scheme requirements. A highlight was the merry go round which the Scouts all had a…

Atiu Creek Orienteering

We invited our families and the Cubs to practice orienteering at Atiu Creek Regional Park. It was a lot of walking and quite tricky in parts – lucky it was a nice day. Our Scouts improved their map reading and compass skills and were never really that lost.

Founder’s Day Raft Race

Our Keas, Cubs and Scouts all participated in the Founder’s day activities at Browns Bay. Here’s some photos of our Scouts. They all did a great job and Sunnynook Team 3 easily won the race. We missed out on the trophy by a single competition point, but still a great effort they can all be…

Te Haruhi Bay Scout Camp

Torrential rain and 100km/hr winds were forecast, so we went camping. No problems for the Sunnynook Scouts who do a proper job of putting up their tents. We went snorkelling with “Experiencing Marine Reserves” which was good fun, but visibility was very poor due to the storm. We had a campfire in the evening and…
