Being part of Sunnynook Scouts gives young people amazing opportunities — outdoor adventures, new skills, leadership, friendships, and memories that last a lifetime. Below is a clear breakdown of what families pay and what each part covers.
🆕 Joining Fee – $50 (one‑off)
A one‑time joining fee applies to all new youth members.
This covers the essentials they need to get started:
- 🧣 Group scarf
- 🎖️ Initial badges
- 📘 Section handbook
This fee is only paid once, no matter how long your child stays in Scouts.
🧭 One Term Fee Covers Everything
At Sunnynook, we keep things simple:
- You pay one term fee, and
- That fee already includes the national Scouts Aotearoa membership fee
We collect the full amount, then pass the national portion on to Scouts Aotearoa. You do not pay anything separately to the national office.
💵 What You Pay Each Term
🟦 First Child: $150 per term
This includes:
- The Scouts Aotearoa national fee (we pass this portion on)
- The Sunnynook Group fee (covers local programme costs)
🟩 Additional Children: $135 per term
A discounted rate for siblings in the same family.
This also includes the national fee — we simply absorb part of the cost to support families.
📘 What the Fees Cover

This supports:
- Programme development
- Leader training
- Insurance
- National administration
We pass this portion directly to Scouts Aotearoa.
🟩 2. Sunnynook Group Fee (included in your term fee)
This supports our local programme and covers:
- Weekly section night activities
- Hall running costs
- Equipment and gear maintenance
- Badges earned during the term
- Leader support and training
🏕️ Camps, Events & Activities
Optional camps and special activities may have additional costs depending on:
- Location
- Duration
- Activity type
We always communicate costs clearly and aim to keep events affordable.

We never want cost to stop a young person from joining Scouts. We can help with:
- Payment plans
- Subsidies
- Fundraising opportunities
