Around 70 of our Keas, Cubs and Scouts and 15 adventurous Leaders got together for a great weekend camping out and doing all sorts of cool scouting stuff.

Our Keas, Cubs and Scouts all participated in the Founder’s day activities at Browns Bay. Here’s some photos of our Scouts. They all did a great job and Sunnynook Team 3 easily won the race. We missed out on the trophy by a single competition point, but still a great effort they can all be…

We had a lot of new Scouts join this year and they had the opportunity to come to our annual raft building camp at the end of week 1. We practiced building and rowing our rafts a few times so we got our teamwork sorted out. We are all ready for the zone race next…

Torrential rain and 100km/hr winds were forecast, so we went camping. No problems for the Sunnynook Scouts who do a proper job of putting up their tents. We went snorkelling with “Experiencing Marine Reserves” which was good fun, but visibility was very poor due to the storm. We had a campfire in the evening and…

Our whole group got out to Sanders Reserve on Sunday for a Bike Day. It’s a great facility for a event that can cover such a wider range of ages and we had about 50 Keas, Cubs and Scouts attend along with their families.

Our Scouts gave our brand new hike tents a trial run with a camp at Tawharanui Regional Park. It was the first camp as a Scout for those that had recently moved up from Cubs. We went on a hike each day and explored some rockpools and caves.

We went to Rangitoto on the ferry, and stayed overnight at the Devonport Scout Groups’ bach. On the first day we walked halfway around the island to the lighthouse and then up to the summit to watch the sunset, and toasted some s’mores. We then explored the lava caves in the dark. On Sunday we…

It was a great day to brush up our map reading and compass skills at Mahurangi Regional Park. All ticked off that part of their Silver Award, and Ella made us walk for 4 hours so she could tick off that part of her Gold Award.

Our Scouts invited the Cubs for a walk around Lake Wainamu, near Bethels Beach. It was very muddy! Our Scouts BBQed some sausages for lunch, then we had a fun time sandboarding down the Giant Dunes. Everyone got filthy, but had a great time.

We had an overnight camp at the Schischka Campgroup at Wenderholm Regional Park. We had a swim in the estuary then practiced building our rafts in preparation for the Founders’ day raft race. The first time they fell apart, so we had to practice some more and learnt to paddle them.
